An interesting article in the register today, suggests that the iphone 3G has a fault to do with the 3g capability of the phone.
The “signal” that is sent out for the 3g service – appears to be several DB below minimum levels, questioning how the phone got approved. The original phones for approval may have had different software which allowed them to pass. This we should all hope for, at least if it is software – there is a chance Apple can resolve this. If it is a hardware fault, I really can’t see Apple recalling the phones for replacement – but then a failure of this significance in the very phone that was sold as the “twice as fast” NEW 3G iPhone will no doubt be a huge blow to Apple.
This will be an interesting one to keep track of over the next few weeks.

Microsoft Presenter Mouse 8000 (18 Months On)

I got my first Microsoft Presenter Mouse 8000 around 18 months ago.
I would go to say, it is the best mouse I have ever had (even given the problems I have had with it – more below). It immediately resolved what I classed as early RSI in my wrist, much more comfortable to use than my previous Explorer mouse.
Yes it is small, but very usable and doubles up for its presentation functions which I do use from time to time.
I have had problems with it working with my Dell M1300, there appears to be a connectivity issue where regularly the mouse slows down from its normal movement pace. This is incredibly annoying but only occurs when using the built in Bluetooth Stack, not when using the dongle that came with the mouse. The problem can always be corrected by adjusting the line of sight to the machine.
This is a strange issue, as you can use the mouse Meters away from the machine and it works fine, but when you are 30cms away from the pc it can flareup and cause its anoying effect. But still, I love it – i’ve tried to find a solution to this but now given up.
Even with what is a really annoying problem, I still decided to purchase a 2nd mouse for my MAC.
I swapped the mice over, so the new one was on my PC (my main machine).
So… 18 months on, the next problem is now starting to annoy me.
At the side of the mice is a rubber grip. Unfortunately the grip seems what I can only describe as disolve. Its very hard to describe, so heres a picture showing the problem:

The top one is the most used. I am right handed, so the left hand side is much worse than the right.
Not a lot I can do about that – if anyone knows of a solution to this or the bluetooth connectivity problem, please do let me know.
BUT – I would still purchase the mice again, even though the mice are not cheap.
Hopefully, Microsoft will bring out an updated version of this model that does not have the same problem.
